Mangroves are vital coastal ecosystems that protect against storm surges, capture carbon, and serve as nurseries for marine life. This project focuses on restoring degraded mangrove blocks in the Saloum Delta through community replanting drives and introducing sustainable aquaculture techniques.
Project Objectives
- Replant 1 million mangrove propagules over two years.
- Establish 5 community-managed oyster and cockle farms.
- Conduct educational campaigns in 12 local schools on wetland value.
Impact Summary
Over 40 hectares of degraded wetlands have already been replanted, returning critical fish nursery grounds and improving the incomes of local women oyster harvesters.
